Employability afternoon for Social Sciences students

Students from across the faculty are being invited to an employability afternoon at the Edge, Endcliffe Student Village, Wednesday 12 March, 1.00 – 5.00, starting with a free lunch!
The programme includes a leadership workshop run by Teach First, the UK largest graduate recruiter; as well as an opportunity to find out about the Faculty’s Work Experience Bursaries Scheme and the In Shape employability programme.

The afternoon event marks the official launch of In Shape, an employability programme targeted at Social Sciences first and intermediate years who are from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in higher education (this can mean the first generation in their family to go to university, students from schools / colleges with low progression rates into HE, or from lower-income families, or mature students). The full programme will include regular workshop sessions on a wide range of employability-related topics led by big-name employers and careers experts.

The event on 12 March has now been opened to a wider pool of Social Sciences students, who are welcome to join us for the afternoon, with no obligation to sign up for the In Shape programme.

The afternoon will include:
1.00 – 1.30   Registration and Lunch

1.30 – 3.00   Welcome and Introduction; The In Shape Programme;
Experience Sheffield: making the most of your time at University
Work Experience and the Faculty’s Work Experience Bursaries Scheme

3.00 – 5.00   Leadership Skills workshop; led by Anna Carlisle, Graduate Recruitment Officer at Teach First, and a member of the Faculty’s Employer Liaison Group

If you’re a UK student, first or intermediate year, and consider yourself to be from an under-represented background, sign up by this Thursday, 27 February – either email transitions@sheffield.ac.uk  with your registration number, or complete the In Shape sign-up form (no need to complete all sections, just name, email and registration number, and no obligation to commit yourself to future In Shape sessions).
